Many would argue the first 5 years of a child’s life matter the most. The early experiences of a young child shape the course of their lives.
We know this, but if you are like me, doing what we know is best for the children in our lives is NOT easy. Sometimes, we need a little help.
This course takes all of the guesswork of teaching a child to read. I will show you how to combine speaking, writing reading, listening, to raise a confident and successful reader.
How It All Began
Ten years ago, I left my 1st grade classroom in California to work in international schools. Since then, I haven’t stayed in the same city for more than 2 years. I have lived on 4 different continents in 6 different countries and traveled to over 50.
I have had to start from scratch 6 different times in a classroom using different books, different curriculum, with kids (and parents) who I could only communicate through gestures due to the language barrier. Every time I moved to a new city, I’ve had to figure out how to effectively communicate that I was trustworthy as well as capable of teaching children.
I have made many hilarious and totally embarrassing cultural faux pas while immersing myself in my new environments. I have had parent teacher conferences, report cards, homework assignments, and even emails that were full of biases I had no idea were there.
As I packed and unpacked all of my belongings more times than I can count, I think I have made every single possible mistake you can make when teaching a child how to read.
The Secrets of Reading
After 12 years of teaching children from all over the world, I had to figure out how to put all my knowledge from my degrees and experience the classroom into action when I got pregnant.
Was I in for a lot of surprises! There were thousands of lessons that were not taught in my education courses or came up in my classroom (ie. how to teach a child not to fall down the stairs.)
Teaching a child how to write their name failed in comparison to any parenting duty.
That’s when I decided to approach teaching a child to read in a different way. This was largely in part because a mini-version of my stubborn self was staring back at me. I wanted to create a process that would work for any parent to see their child be successful when they started school and not struggle as I have seen so many times in my classroom.
This approach is integrating all of the literacy skills together so you have maximum success when you are teaching a child to read.
A Real Life Approach to Reading
Even as a early elementary teacher who teaches kids to read all day, there were many days where the last thing I wanted to do was work on literacy at home.
There were plenty of days where I did not want to engage my child at all, much less read to her. After working with children all day in my class, I came home so exhausted from little people questions and needs all day long that I had nothing left to give to my own child. As Lucy Calkins says, “No job requires more intelligence, knowledge, and energy than the job of parenting.”
I will guide you in using whole brain learning so that you understand the process behind learning to read to make teaching a child to read far less challenging.
Fighting Against the Guilt
The guilt we carry as parents and caregivers is real. Nevertheless, I refuse to let those bad days discourage me from my ultimate goals and purpose. The past 5 years of being a parent, I have worked relentlessly to research, learn, and implement the most engaging strategies possible for raising a reader from both. And it worked.
5 years later, I was sending my oldest child to Kindergarten who could confidently read any book I put in front of her. She was reading, writing, speaking, and listening far above grade level. She was immediately placed into advanced classes due to her off the charts scores.
Academically and socially, she excelled. Raising compassionate and successful readers; it's what we all dream about, but now I had the joy of seeing it become a reality. I want the exact same for you!
How to Read Consistently
From all of my MANY mistakes with my own child as well as my students, I have learned the reading magic lies in the daily and consistent strategies I am going to give you in this course.
The key to unlocking a child’s reading ability and potential starts the day they are born. Giving them a rich literacy environment from the moment they come home from the hospital is crucial. By using the strategies laid out in this course, I can personally guarantee you will see your child excel later in school academically. I can guarantee it because I have seen it work.
And for now, I am going to give the HOW and the WHAT to read so your child can learn to read, while also learning empathy and compassion to become a global citizen.
Not only am I going to give you the tools for raising readers, I will give you practical ways to enrich their lives.
Your Lifelong Investment
This course is an investment in the future of the child(ren) in your care. I am going to help you develop a literacy foundation that is not based on a curriculum, learning style, or a diverse collection of books. This course is going to help you give children a true love for knowledge as well as for people.
This course includes:
- Self-Paced Instruction
- Video Tutorials
- Printable Checklists and Guides
- Supplemental Reading
- Email Support
I will give you all of my reading and literacy methods with fun, short, and easy-to-understand audio and video lectures on each of the most important topics to raise a reader.
The course also includes:
- A how-to guide on encouraging your baby, toddler, or preschooler to have extraordinary reading, writing, speech, listening, and motor skills before they turn 5 years old
- Instructions and techniques on how to create a literacy-rich and diverse environment to instill a love and passion for reading, but also for reading the world.
- A walk through of health/emotional benefits of speaking, reading, writing, and listening (SWiRL) with a child through music, (multiple) language, art, play, and math.
- A practical guide for how to use whole brain learning as a reading technique
- Strategies and resources for teaching children multiple languages even if you aren’t multilingual
This course is exactly what I wish I had when I was pregnant with my daughter and is the result of everything I learned through trial and (a bunch of) errors.
You have a choice, you can choose the long route like I did with a lot of trial and error, or you can invest in this course that guarantees results.
I truly hope you decide to enroll in my course today and join our global community of parents and caregivers who want to give our children every opportunity in the world from the very beginning.
